So I thought everything was going well. I haven't had any problems (my cervix is long, very few contractions, blood pressure good, etc.) until Thursday night. Chris and I went to bed around 10:30 and my back was killing me. I took tylenol and had Chris rub my back but none of that really helped. Finally around 11:30 or so I got out of bed and thats when I realized that I was having contractions every 3 to 4 mintues. I called the doctor and of course he had me come in. Luckily Amy is wonderful and came over and got Britton so we didn't have to worry about him and then we went in. They put me on a monitor and my contractions had slowed down to every 6 minutes, but still not good. The nurse gave me a shot of "terb" and that helped for a little while. By the way the stuff sucks really bad. It increases your heart rate so I felt hot, shaky and my pulse raced. Yuck. After a little while (an hour maybe two) the "terb" wore off and my contractions came back. They decided that it would be a good idea to put an iv in at that time. Well the night nurses are not very good with iv's and I have bad veins. Not a very good combination. They had two different people try and I was stuck about 4 times before they finally decided to put it on the inside of my wrist. It was a horrible experience especially since I had sent Chris home after my first shot of "terb" so he could get some sleep. The whole time they were sticking me I was contracting and bawling since it hurt so bad. I was so happy when they finally got it in. After the iv I got another shot of "terb" which made my contractions stop and some other pill to keep them from coming back. I was finally able to try and get some sleep around 4:30 in the morning and i slept until 7. My doctor came in at 7 to see how I was doing and they did an ultrasound to check on the babies. (I was supposed to have a doctors appointment that day to check the growth of the babies). They measured the babies and Baby A and C are 2 lbs 4 oz and Baby B is 1 lb 13 oz, so they are growing good and getting big. I also had to do my glucose test and they drew blood. I failed my glucose test and will have to do a 3 hour test on Friday. Hopefully that comes back good since I don't know what I'll do if I have gestational diabetes...food is the only thing I can look forward to right now and I don't want to have to watch what I'm eating. They also found out that my iron is low even with prenatals and an iron supplement, so I have to take an additional dose of iron in the morning as well. Luckily my doctor sent me home later that day on a prescribtion of Procardia. I have to take it every 6 hours to keep me from having contractions, and I'm so glad that I have it. When it gets close to the time to take my next pill my contractions start picking up and I don't want to go back to the hospital!!
Whew, that was a long story to tell. The moral to it all is that carrying 3 babies is HARD and even I didn't realize how quickly something can go wrong. If they wouldn't have been able to stop the contractions with medicine I would probably have had my babies that night, which would have been extremely scary since I'm only 26 weeks right now. I also am really worried about my next "episode". I know that it will most likely happen again, I just don't know when. Hopefully the next time will not be for another 7 weeks or so and the next time the babies will be here.
